ATEL and Shell impressively confirm electronic Confirmation Matching Interoperability
VIENNA, June 06th, 2006
Bilateral tests between ATEL AG, Switzerland, and Shell Trading, UK, with the goal of exchanging and matching of XML based trade confirmations, were successfully completed. Since June, both companies went live and exchange electronic confirmations via their eCMS – while ATEL is using enerbility, the first mover on the market, Shell is using a Ponton-box. The going live of ATEL and Shell proves the concept of EFET's standardisation efforts aiming at a free and fair marketplace in the area of electronic messaging for energy trading.
XML based electronic confirmations as a substitute for fax-based confirmations are the next step on the way to full electronic processes in the energy trading business. The necessary standards to accomplish this are developed in cooperative effort supported by energy majors under the umbrella of the European Federation of Energy Traders (http://www.efet.org).
Carsten Diederich, Head of Clearing at ATEL states: „After a long, demanding and finally successful testing period in which we matched all our trades from January 2005 until now, ATEL and Shell decided today to go live with electronic Confirmation Matching. This is a very important step in the history of the EFET-eCM-Standard as this is the first going live between a "Ponton-Box" and an "enerbility-Box".“
Hannes Stiebitzhofer, CEO of enerbility, adds “Since ATEL and Shell are live with their eCMS, customers don’t have to care about interoperability issues anymore and can focus on the much more important aspects of process improvement, e.g. user experience, auditing capabilities and integration into energy trading and risk management systems, which have significantly higher long term impact on power & gas trading”.
